URGENT NOTICE: Service Disruption Due to Persistent Heavy Rainfall in Bangladesh

Dear Valued Customers and Partners,

Greetings!

Due to the active monsoon and a depression over the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh has been experiencing persistent heavy rainfall⛈️. Chattogram city recorded 330.58 mm to over 400 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, marking the highest single-day rainfall for July in 33 years. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the wet spell is expected to continue until July 11.

As a result, severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions have been reported across multiple regions. Cargo handling at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port has been suspended due to rough sea conditions, affecting 43 vessels. Train services on the Chattogram–Cox's Bazar route have been halted after floodwater submerged railway tracks, leaving approximately 1,000 passengers stranded. Major highways in Dhaka and other cities have also been submerged, causing severe traffic congestion. Additionally, continuous rainfall has heightened the risk of landslides in hilly areas; local authorities have activated emergency shelters and evacuated residents from high-risk zones

At present, container handling at Chattogram Port's jetties continues despite the heavy rainfall. However, due t waterlogged roads and restricted vehicle movements, the placement of containers at depots, unloading of cargo vehicles, and dispatching of laden containers to the port have been significantly slowed down.

The Kagrabari-to-Rangamati Highway (Chittagong Hill Tracts) has been cut off in several places due to flooding, disrupting traffic and forcing residents to wade through the water to get around.

Wealth Rich International Freight (Wealth Rich) is closely monitoring the weather and transport situation.
